Our History

Bellad-Bagewadi village in Hukkeri taluk of Belgavi district has been famous in the field of co-operatives since the beginning. In 1905, i.e. when the Co-operative Act came into force, a single-member co-operative society was established in Bellad-Bagewadi village. This was the first co-operative society in Belgaum district. We feel proud when we remember the fact that when writing the history of the co-operative movement in Belgaum district, we have to start with the name of our village. Under the chairmanship of the then Deputy Speaker of the Bombay Province, the merchant class of the village met in 1944 and decided to establish a bank in the village. The bank was established on 25.11.1944 with a capital of only Rs. 20,000. In the initial year of establishment of the bank, the membership was very low and was limited to Bellad-Bagewadi village only. The bank, which started with a small capital, started providing financial assistance to the people of the village by providing loans at low interest rates and gained the trust of the public and also made progress in the collection of port deposits. The growth accelerated after the bank came under the orbit of the Reserve Bank in 1980. Under the leadership of Mr. Vishwanath Katti, the pace of growth of the bank increased and its scope of operation expanded with the opening of branches in the towns of Kannur, Dhupadala and Sankeshwar. The Reserve Bank of India, recognizing the good governance of the bank, conferred the "Laysan" on it. In 1985, the position vacated by the untimely death of Shri Vishwanath Katti was filled by the then enthusiastic young activist Shri Ramesh Katti, who later served as the Chairman and was closely involved in the overall development of the bank. Having gained expertise in the field of banking, he focused more on the development of the bank. The bank grew rapidly and started branches in Konnur, Shindhikurabet, Kalloli, Yamakanamaradi. All 7 branches were given their own buildings and customer confidence in the bank was increased. For the convenience of the bank's administration, the bank was brought under the ambit of the Souharda Act in 2002.

The bank is working as per the guidelines of the Reserve Bank and as per the laws and regulations and it is a matter of pride that in the last 6 years, it has been allowed to open 19 branches considering the progressive governance of the bank. Branches have been opened in Sultanpur, Hukkeri, Kanagala, Sadashiva Nagar Belgaum, Shivabasava Nagar Belgaum, Shiraguppi, Ainapur, Harugeri, Mudalagi, Chikkodi, Nippani, Yaragati, Kittur, Savadatti, Murugod, Yadavada, Ramadurga, Ankalagi and Inchal.
